Ragi Halwa Recipe for babies and kids

I have always been a mom who has shown keen interest in serving tradtional foods to babies and leaving the western culture for the weekends. Having said that , one of key ingredients i had introduced to my kid since he was 7 months old was Ragi/ Nachni.
Initially it started as a porridge and now I make Ragi Dosa, Ragi idli and one of our favourite sweet dish Ragi Halwa. So here i am today sharing Ragi Halwa Recipe for babies and kids. Its nutritious, healthy, yummy and perfect for the little monsters tastebuds.
Ragi Halwa Recipe for babies and kids
Ingredients
- Ragi Flour 1/2 cup
- Ghee 3 to 4 tbsp
- Hot Milk 1 cup
- Sugar/ Jaggery 1/4 cup
- Cardamom Powder 1/4 tsp
Garnish
- Almonds 6 to 7 pieces chopped
- Pistachio 6 to 7 pieces chopped
Method
- Heat ghee in a Pan
- Add the ragi flour and stir it continuously for 3-4 mins on a low
- As the mixture bubbles, add sugar or jaggery in the above mixture
- Stir the mixture till the sugar completely dissolves
- Heat the milk separately and pour it in the above mixture slowly
- Continue to stir, till the mixture starts thickening
- When the mixture starts leaving the pan, add 1/4 cardamom powder
- Switch off the flame and transfer the halwa in a bowl
- Garnish it with almonds and pistachio and serve hot

As we all know ragi is a rich source of calcium, protein, iron and various minerals, this ragi halwa recipe can be given to them in any time of the day. I prefer giving this sugar rush at the start of the day, however it also serves as a mid snack in the evening.
