Review on Masala Monk’s Holi Hamper – Rose Thandai Mix, Kesar Gujiya and Aam ka Achar
Holi a season of colours, joy, happiness, sweets , thandai and so much more. It is undoubtedly my favorite festival, one of the reason being we have a big gettogether and obviously there is food, music, gifts and the spirit of holi. To keep up to the holi enthusiasm this year, Masala Monk decided to curate a holi hamper for me consisting of Kesar Gujiya, Rose Thandai and Sukhe Aam Ka Achar.
To share a bit about the brand – Masla Monk products where the focus primary is to provide handmade, authentic, wide range of products catering to the needs of our indian audience. They have a wide range of products from nut spreads to milk mixes, from pickles to homemade cake, from cocktail based spreads to indian traditional sweets offering gamete of choices to the customer. The good part is they closely work with producers, growers and farmers to get the best gourmet range at our dinner table.
As I am a big time foodie myself, who loves sweets and savories equally, I just cant seem to resist the plethora of variety they have in each food group. But to begin with, I would like you to go through my YouTube video below wherein, I have opened the package as received and have given my first reaction to the products tasted.
THE MASALA MONKS’S HAMPER PACKAGING
I am going to begin this review talking about the rough and tough packaging. Disclaimer here, the packaging was not fancy but absolutely durable considering the were eatables like pickle where oil could have oozed out easily and so with Gujiya, it could have crumbled into pieces . But Masala Monk ensured the packaging to be sustainable enough to surpass the travelling pressures and reach the consumer in it’s best condition.
THE MASALA MONKS’S HAMPER PRODUCT
Sukhe Aam Ka Achar
Summers are here and indeed this is the time to make pickles, eat pickles and relish pickles. I received the sukha aam aachar which mean less oil, thereby ensuring I can pack it for travel or in lunch boxes as oil spilling is not possible.
The pickle USP is
- It is homemade
- It does not contain any additives, preservatives, chemicals or artificial flavor
- The traditional methods of tapping and using sunlight to cook are used so that the nutrient value remains intact
- The ingredients are limited to Raw RamKela Mango, red chilli, Heeng (asafoetida), saunf (fennel), coriander powder, mustard oil, salt and spices making it authentic
The product is priced at MRP 699/- for a pack of 220gm and needs to be consumed within 12 moths from the date of manufacture. ( there are special discounts running on the website from time to time )
Kesar ka Gujiya
Holi is actually incomplete without Gujiya and Thandai. So here I am sharing my thoughts on it.
Masala Monk ensured the taste of the gujiya’s resembled the one we make it at homes specially deriving from our grandma’s recipe. The gujiya’s filling was good-made from coconut, dryfruits, ghee, kesar and rock sugar. It just melted in the mouth making you crave more.
The USP of the Gujiya is the sweetness.
- It is minimal from added sugars but more natural coming from coconut , rasins and other drfruits.
- The external shell of gujiya is indeed delicate and flaky the way it should be and has distinct flavour of ghee which ensures the quality of the product is not taken for ride.
The product is priced at MRP 1499/- for a pack of 850gms i.e approx 24 to 26 pieces and needs to be consumed within 2 moths from the date of manufacture. ( there are special discounts running on the website from time to time )
I have shared my entire experience in the video below
Rose Thandai Mix
On the other hand, The Rose Thandai is absolutely a refreshing drink which I am sure will take me way through the summers. The product comes in a glass bottle and all you need to do is mix one scoop of thandai mix and little sugar to the glass of milk.
The Rose Thandai mix contains almonds, melon seeds, poppy seeds and also peppercorns for that slight spice. There is a particular aroma of cardamom in the coarse mixture making your senses tickle. We can easily see rose petals and saffron strands while sipping in the Thandai.
The USP of Rose Thandai is
- The mixture gets easily dissolved in milk not even taking a minute.
- It taste ecstatic making you not stop at one glass of milk
- The entire mixture is handmade crafted from Grandfather’s traditional recipe
- It needs little sugar to give the added boost to the spices and flavours in the thandai mix
- Lastly, an authentic product by Vikas Agarwal
The product is priced at MRP 699/- for a pack of 220gm . ( there are special discounts running on the website from time to time )
MY OVERALL EXPERIENCE
As a consumer when it comes to sweet, I am always skeptical of ordering online. I would prefer walking to an outlet and check the freshness of the sweets. The Kesar Gujjiya by Masala Monk surprised me because it was actually fresh, did not even smell a little bit and was true to the taste. I will never be hesitant in future to purchase online or get it shipped directly to my near and dear ones.
The Rose Thandai mix is actually perfect and comes in friendly packaging too. I just wish the ingredients is mentioned on the packaging to refer too what all it contains and I do not need to head to the website.
Although Aachar our my favorite, it was my first time where I tasted the sukha version of Aam. Since its less oily I can include it in my everyday meal too. It taste is delightful and the good part is the process to make it ensures the right nutrients are intact. In my next purchase, I would actually want to explore the other variety of aachar too made by them.
So Masala Monk has made an entry to my kitchen shelves and with its extensive range of products available now, I just can’t wait to explore them and share my review with you.
